PARA VHF UHF Contest Template

1. Objective

For participating amateur radio stations to contact as many amateur radio stations as possible within the allocated contest period.

Provide a venue for testing propagation. Promote club activity.

Develop and enhance fellowship and friendship among amateurs. Collect as many QSL cards as possible for award credit.

Enjoy the contest.

2. Period of Operation

24 hours

04 May 2019, 0500 UTC - 05 May 2019, 0459 UTC

3. Eligibility

All licensed amateur radio stations who are members of PARA are encouraged to participate and must operate within the limits of their licenses.

Although only PARA members are qualified to win an award, non-PARA members are also encouraged to join. Each participant will receive a Certificate of Participation.

4. Suggested Frequencies

Frequencies and modes in the list are only suggested combinations. Participants may opt to override them. Participants are encouraged to follow the above band plan.

6. Rules

A participant must use only one callsign during the entire contest.

A participant is defined as an individual person that participates in the contest either as an individual or part of a team.

A log submission in the Multi-operator category reporting contacts with its own team members will be disqualified.

A log submission in the Single-operator category reporting contacts with the multi- operator team he/she participated in the team, will be disqualified.

All antennas must be physically connected by wires/cables to the transmitters and receivers.

Contacts made on the EMERGENCY frequency, 145.000 MHz are not valid.

In the event that HERO is activated, all participants are not to use 144.74 MHz Same station contacts on the same band are allowed provided that the contacts are made on different modes. [i.e. 6 meters J3E and A1A, 2 meters J3E. F3E and A1A). Single Tone generated modulation using F3E emission is not allowed.

Duplicate contacts on any band are not allowed.

Duplicate contacts are based on the combination of the callsign-band-mode.

A participating station or club with a special event callsign must secure a permit from the NTC prior to the contest and failure to obtain the same will disqualify the contest entry. A copy of the Special Permit shall be submitted together with the log submission.

Contacts via repeaters or the internet are not allowed.

In the interest of Long Haul QSOís, the use of telephones, text, telegrams, packet, fax machines, internet, HF is allowed to let people know that you are on the air, however, actual QSOís must be completed over the airwaves for contest credit.

No cross-band and cross mode contacts.

Relaying of contacts (piggybacking) is strictly prohibited.

Mobile stations can participate; however, the entry category shall only be the mobile category even if one contact on any band or mode has been signed with a mobile callsign. For example, if one (1) QSO is signed as DW1TEC/mobile; DW1TEC/mobile 4; the station entry shall automatically fall under the mobile category and can no longer be qualified for any non-mobile entry nor category even if all other QSOís are signed as DW1TEC.

Mobile stations can provide different Grid Locators as part of their return exchange. However, the station must only contact both mobile and non-mobile station based on the following guidelines:

Operating in a location different from the location as stated in the RSL will automatically classify the entry as a field operation.

Compliance with the operating frequency per license class privilege are enforced.

Timestamps of contacts made must be in UTC.

Non-compliance with any of the above rules may result in entry disqualification.

7. Exchange

No other information, such as the other station's address, may be exchanged during the contact.

8. Multipliers

Multipliers are the number of Grid Locators and prefixes worked.

A PREFIX is the letter/numeral combination which forms the first part of the amateur call. Examples: DU1, DU2, 4F2, DW1, DV9, DX5, etc. Any difference in the numbering, lettering, or order of same shall count as a separate prefix. Should a station be signing in as a portable callsign, the prefix credit shall follow the district number where the station is located. (Example: DX3DEF/2, the prefix holds as is DX2)

9. QSO Points

Contacts between stations from different Radio Districts are worth ten (10) points (example1: DU1 calling a DU2 station, example2: DU station calling a Foreign DX station)

Contacts between stations within the same radio district are worth five (5) points.

10. Scoring

The final score equals the total QSO points multiplied by the total number of grid locators and prefixes worked.

11. Awards/Prizes

Colored award certificates will be awarded to the top finishers in each category.

Colored award certificates will be awarded for the second and third place finishers in each category.

Participation certificates will be given to all participating stations submitting their logs on time.

The result of this contest will be published in the PARA website.

A special colored certificate shall be given to the stations making the Longest Haul contact on the 6 meter, 2 meter and 70 centimeter, 23 centimeter band.

All awards will be issued to the licensee stations.

12. Log Instructions

Use the universal coordinated time (UTC) in logging the contacts. Log all sent and received exchanges.

Log/s must be checked for duplicate contacts, correct QSO points and multipliers.

Logs must be submitted IN Cabrillo format (available log conversions are on the internet) or in the official Excel log sheet to be provided by the Contest Committee. No manual logs will be accepted.

Logs must be submitted to PARAVHFUHF2018@gmail.com with the subject line stating PARA VHF-UHF CONTEST 2019 LOG. The electronic log must be submitted as a file attachment to the email with the subject line of the email containing the callsign.

A copy of the updated amateur radio station license and the valid permit for special callsigns must be submitted as an attachment to the log sheet/s or as an attachment to the electronic log submission. Failure to do so will disqualify the entry.

For participating PARA members, if digital copy of PARA ID is not available, any proof of PARA membership will suffice.

You may want to use a logging software which supports the ARRL VHF contest.

UTC DATE: The template log sheet format for UTC date is yyyy-mm-dd, but participants may use any of the following formats when entering date: 5-4, 5/4, May 4, May-4, May/4
UTC TIME: MUST be in 24-hour (military) 4-digit UTC format.

13. Disqualification

A. Violation of amateur radio rules, and the regulations of the contest.

B. An entrant whose log is deemed by the Contest Committee to contain a large number of discrepancies (such as duplicates, incomplete QSO column data, and excessive unverifiable contacts) may be disqualified.

Some QSOs may be invalidated for the following reasons:
1- Invalid GRID. Grids not within Philippines, incorrect GRID format, too far from the actual transmission QTH
2- Invalid time. a) not in 24-hour (military) 4-digit UTC format and/or b) difference of more than 15 minutes compared to his contact’s time entry.
3- Lines with incomplete data

Action and decision of the PARA Contest Committee are official and final.

14. Deadline

Submitted logs must be emailed NOT LATER than 2359H (LOCAL TIME) OF JUNE 08 2019. Logs emailed after the deadline will not be entertained.
