 December YOTA Month

Dear member societies, youth coordinators and youngsters,

December YOTA Month application is open at: https://events.ham-yota.com/register/

Make sure to sign up before December starts!

We are excited to announce that our famous December YOTA Month (DYM) will happen again this year. We invite you to take part with a callsign with “YOTA” in the suffix, for example, HA6YOTA. The idea for this is to show amateur radio to young people and to encourage youngsters to be active on the amateur bands.

Under normal circumstances, this is a great moment to show amateur radio to the world, to invite young newcomers by giving demonstrations at schools and universities and to help both licensed and unlicensed youth be on the air (where local regulations permit).

We are aware that the current COVID-19 situation is not perfect to operate at schools, universities or elsewhere in groups. Nevertheless, we would like to encourage member societies to apply for a YOTA-suffix callsign and hand out this callsign to youngsters who have their own stations available or can still use a club or a parent station at home etc. Often member societies do this by offering the call for use in, say, 24 or 48 hour periods by different stations.

This is a great opportunity for young radio amateurs to experience on-air pile-ups and for some this may even be their first radio contact ever. Please encourage everyone to look out for the special DYM callsigns and to call in. Every QSO is highly appreciated by the DYM Team!

We want to spread the word amongst as many worldwide member societies as possible. This can’t be done without your effort! – “Yes, there’s still youth in hamradio!” … this is our motto.
DYM is THE chance to promote youth in amateur radio through activity on the bands.
Member societies, please be part of that activity.

Awards Diplomas can be achieved by working our YOTA suffix special stations which are run by young operators throughout December! Check out the website for all rules.

This is of course not a contest, but is a way of getting many youngsters on air from many countries. Be helpful on the bands, maybe these young operators are just making their first ever contacts!

The aim is that YOTA stations are in general operated by young people, with the age of maximum 25 years. The event will take place from 1 December 2020 00:00 UTC till 31 December 2020 23:59 UTC.

Attached you will find a bulletin with a lot of info, if you want to take part, read this carefully and share this with your operators. Next to this, more info is available on the DYM webpage https://events.ham-yota.com/

You can also find us on social media platforms, like @hamyota on Facebook and Twitter.

You can also join our Facebook group by facebook.com/groups/youngstersontheair where you can find up-to-date information during December.

We also encourage you as member society, youth coordinator or youngster to spread the word. If you have any question don’t hesitate to contact our DYM team at dym[at]ham-yota.com or me directly at dk6sp[at]gmx.de.

Show amateur radio to the world! This is a perfect opportunity.

Make sure to sign up before December starts!
