The University of the Philippines Resilience Institute in partnership with the UP Astronomical Society held its 4th UPRI-NOAH TALK (Think, Act, Learn, and be Knowledgeable) on Disaster Resiliency on October 28, 2019 at the National Institute of Geological Sciences in UP Diliman, focusing on the country’s various efforts to develop disaster resiliency through advancing space science and technology.

DU1AU of AMSAT Philippines explains how to access amateur radio satellites using a radio and an improvised antenna One of the talks featured amateur radio satellite communications delivered by AMSAT Philippines Inc. and Philippine Amateur Radio Association Inc. (PARA) member Anthony Urbano (DU1AU) where he discussed how satellites can be used as an alternative way of communicating in times of disaster. He further explained how one becomes a licensed amateur radio operator, a legal requirement to be able to use two-way radios needed to access the satellites.
