Joining a local 2-meter net call using M17 (project)
What is M17 project?
M17 is a new digital radio protocol in development as an alternative to those currently available, with freedom in mind; freedom in the code, protocol, voice codecs and hardware. The goal is to provide a better option for digital radios in the future.
How is the connection done?
They have created an android application called DROIDSTAR. Download here.
It helps us hams get digitally connected to a lot of modes such as DMR, YSF, FCs, P25, NXDN, M17 including to Allstarlink node via IAX .
One has to download it and update the ‘host’ and ‘DMR I.D.’ files before using your M17.
Now, with a lot of Amateur Clubs linking to Allstarlink system, this has become an added bonus by adding M17 PHP in their nodes.
This came to our attention through the help and initiative of BJ Lee, DV8AWC who started it all.
List of amateur clubs and their corresponding Module:
A = DX8WMG
B = DX1L
C = DX1CW
D = DX7NRD
E = Cotabato
F = DX2ACV
G = DX3CA
H = DX7HQ
I = DZ9IC
J = DX1AFP
K = DX1ARC
L = PINOY-LINK (reserved)
M = DX3H (reserved)
N = DX4NC
O = Basilan
P = DX1PAR
R = TG5152
This list is growing.
There is no “User Blocked”, no need to link and unlinked needed prior moving to another module. Try putting your phone for at least 4 to 5 inches away from your mouth to avoid over modulation. Setting it up is easy. All you need is input your DMR I.D., two digits ESSID (01-99), and input your Brandmeier password if you enabled it.
Now all you need is the schedule of your favorite Amateur clubs and you are ready to QSO or join the net.
Do we have for iPhone?
Oh yes, there is an experimental application, and you need to download two applications.
Some users gave feedback that there are times when audio is not coming out. Just re-start the application.
It also closes due to the screen saver of your phone.
Download and install this first on your phone. TestFlight
Then this one Droidstar for IOS
Just give it a try. Enjoy the hobby.
