Mating an Icom microphone to Yaesu radios with the DU1XRF interface

I have an Icom SM20 microphone which I want to use with an FT 991 and an FT5000. As you know the pinning of Icom is different from the Yaesu. Thus, I needed a DU1XRF interface to be able to use the microphone with the radios.

A picture is worth a thousand words. So let us have pictures do the talking. Thank you to Kuya Noel DU1XRF for the wonderful interface.

Above is the Icom SM20 microphone and the DU1XRF interface box is in the back.

Here is a close up of the DU1XRF microphone interface. The red switches are the up and down buttons for moving the channels on the memory. The up and down buttons of the Icom microphone will not work with a Yaesu radio, thus, extra switches are needed.

The RJ 45 connector goes to the FT991 while the 8 pin round plug mates with the FT 5000. Please be careful not to connect both radios at the same time to prevent damage to the radios.

The red RCA jack is for the foot switch. While the FT5000 has a dedicated RCA jack at the back of the radio for a foot switch, the FT 991 does not.

I love the see through recycled plastic box as it provides an interesting coversation piece.

Here is a view from the other side where the 8 pin female plug which will be the receptacle for the Icom SM20 microphone.

I hope you were able to pick up some ideas from this photo essay.

Hope to work you on the bands.
